When the World Was Waiting for You, by Gillian Shields, Illustrated by Anna Currey

A family tells a little bunny how it was when they were waiting for the bunny to be born. They got ready, they celebrated, the whole world rejoiced. And they all do again as they wait for little bunny to grow and become.

How these stories are connected: Getting ready and celebrating are two central themes of these stories. Just as we get ready and await the birth of our children, we are called to get ready and await Christ's coming. no one can handle our waiting and preparations for us. These are things that are ours to do for ourselves.

Questions about When the World Was Waiting for You:

Who were the bunny's waiting for?

What did they do to get ready?

     Who celebrated?

What are they waiting for now?

Questions about the Bible story:

What were the bridesmaids waiting for?

What did they do to get ready?

Why didn't they share their oil?

     Who celebrated?

Questions about our lives:

What does your family do to get ready for Jesus? (If you need help here, ask about Christmas preparations.)

     How do you celebrate?

Prayer

Dear Jesus, help us to always be ready for your coming. Teach us how to get ready, how to celebrate, and how to look for you everywhere we go.  Amen.
