There’s a Dragon in My Sleeping Bag by James Howe and illustrated By David S. Rose

Two brothers try to outdo one another with the antics of their huge imaginary friends.

How these stories are connected: Jealousy can drive siblings to be mean to one another and to do terrible things. These two stories highlight the need to be kind to one another, particularly when we are closely related.

Questions about There’s a Dragon in My Sleeping Bag:

Why did Simon tell Alex he couldn't sleep in his own sleeping bag, sit in his own chair, or swing, seesaw, or slide?

How do you think Alex felt? What did he do?

What happened to Calvin and Dexter?

What happened to Alex and Simon in the end?

Questions about the Bible story:

What did Joseph think about his brothers in the beginning of the story?

Something happened that changed everything. What was it?

Why did Joseph’s brothers put him in a pit and sell him?

At the end of the story, how do you think Joseph likes his brothers?

Do you think it will stay that way?

Questions about our lives:

What things have people done to hurt you?

Why do you think they do that?

What can you do about that?

Who can help you love them better?

Prayer

Dear God, help us be brave and strong. Help us to keep loving people, even when they hurt us. Amen.
