God spoke to Abram and told him to leave his homeland, his kindred, and his father's house. But God wasn't very specific about where Abram was to go. God just said, "I'll show you." And Abram went. He left a fertile land and headed west...into the desert. When Abram arrived at the place God showed him, it was occupied. Then God appeared to Abram and said, "I will give this land to your offspring."
Maybe we don't have the opportunity to see God unless we go to the places God tells us to go. Those place might not seem inviting, but perhaps there are life experiences much more valuable than simply seeking comfort, security, and luxury. Maybe when we forego those things we actually get glimpses of God and are blessed.
