Jesus meets the disciples as the walk from Jerusalem to Emmaus, but they don't recognize him. As they appraoch Emmaus in the early evening, they invite him to stay with them and as he breaks bread with them their eyes are opened and recognition dawns.
It's at the table that their fears are dispelled and their lives transformed.
