At Lutheran Church of the Cross Council meeting on February 9th 2022, Council approved the attached Draft Constitution and Bylaws to be distributed to the voting members of the congregation on February 10th, 2022.
The Bylaws and Constution that were approved at our 2017/2018 AGM needed to be reformatted to meet the New Model Constitution and Bylaws for Congregations that were approved at National Church Council September 2017.
The most significant change you will notice is a considerable downsizing of the model constitution from 12 articles to 3 accompanied by a commensurate broadening of the content of the model bylaws. The result is a much clearer division between the constitution, a document that names the organization and defines its purpose and objectives, and the bylaws which define the mechanisms and processes by which the congregation works to achieve those objectives.
The Alberta Synod Constitution and Bylaws Committee has reviewed our draft document and their only suggestion was to replace Part 6, Sec. 6 with the following "The quorum for all congregational meetings shall be at least two times the number of Congregational Council Members plus one voting members present."
You will notice we have also added Mission Endowment Fund as Part X This section was approved in 2010 as part of the LCOC Bylaws.
A meeting will be held on March 9th, 2022 at 7pm via zoom to review the document and answer any questions. The zoom invite will be posted on the LCOC website
